WaterFire festival will brightly burn
Staff report
SHARON, PA.
The third and final WaterFire festival in downtown Sharon will take place Saturday from noon to 11:30 p.m. with the theme Boheme.
The festivals include a full schedule of arts and entertainment, all free, at several venues.
Saturday’s event will conclude with a performance from 8 to 11 p.m. by zydeco band Mo Mojo on the main stage.
Mo Mojo spent the past year traveling the globe as cultural ambassadors through the U.S. State Department’s American Music Abroad program.
The highlight, as always, will be the ritual lighting at dusk of 55 wood-burning braziers anchored to the surface of the Shenango River. Food vendors, a children’s tent and four music stages also will be present.
“We’re excited about the Boheme theme for this lighting and know that the crowds will enjoy Mo Mojo,” said Michael Nelson, festival director. “All the stages will be filled with talented musicians throughout the day and into the evening. The local artist community is planning many special extras during the day as well.”
WaterFire is an artistic endeavor that was created by artist Barnaby Evans in Providence, R.I., in the early 1990s, and has since spread to cities across the globe.
