Staff report
AUSTINTOWN
The case of a middle-school girls basketball coach facing child-pornography charges was bound over to await action by a Mahoning County grand jury.
Rex Bosley, 59, of Rita Avenue, was in Mahoning County Area Court on Wednesday on charges of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, a fourth-degree felony; illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance, a fifth-degree felony; and pandering obscenity involving a minor, a fifth-degree felony. He waived a preliminary hearing, and his case was bound over to await action by a grand jury.
The Austintown Board of Education rescinded Bosley’s nonteaching supplemental contract to continue this year as a seventh-grade girls basketball coach for an Austintown Middle School team. He was hired to coach in November 2014.
He was arrested Aug. 12 at his home, where authorities seized a laptop computer and phone as evidence after Bosley consented to a search of the residence. That investigation was done by the Austintown Police Department, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Ohio Attorney General’s Crimes Against Children Unit.
BCI led the investigation, which began in March.
