Plans are made for the fifth annual Arab American Hafli

YOUNGSTOWN

The fifth annual Arab American Hafli (party) will take place Oct. 3 at St. Anne Social Hall, 3055 S. Raccoon Road. A middle Eastern cuisine buffet will be served from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and dancing will take place from 7 to 11 to the music of Emad Batayek and his band from Detroit.

Tickets are $35, and there will be a full cash bar. For tickets, call Mousa Kassis at 330-207-5116 or St. Mark Orthodox Church, the sponsor, at 330-759-8383.

The event is to bring the community together to learn about other cultures, religions, beliefs and ethnicities. Many nationalities attend including Lebanese, Syrian, Egyptian, Palestinian, Greek, Jordanian and Italian, to name a few.

Hummus, meat pies, spinach pies, kibby balls, tabouli, babaganoos, kufta and chicken-on-the-rod are some of the food items featured.

A 52-inch TV will be raffled, and two $100 cash prizes will be awarded.

Residents of Youngstown and the surrounding communities are invited to participate.
