Fordham Univ. rescinds honorary degree it gave Bill Cosby

NEW YORK (AP) — Fordham University has rescinded an honorary degree it gave Bill Cosby in 2001, citing sexual assault allegations against him and the comedian's admission that he obtained Quaaludes to give to women with whom he hoped to have sex.

The University Board of Trustees voted today to take back the degree in light of Cosby's statements in a now-public court deposition.

Cosby admitted having extramarital relationships with several women, including some who now accuse him of sexual assault.

This is the first time Fordham has rescinded an honorary degree. It says as a Jesuit university, "Fordham could no longer stand behind the degree it had bestowed upon Mr. Cosby."

Cosby has never been charged with a crime.
