Evening of poetry and songs at Dorian

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Dorian Books, 802 Elm St., will present An Evening of Poetry and Jazz, featuring poet Arya F. Jenkins, song stylist Kelly Connors and guitarist Richard Palmer on Oct. 10 at 8 p.m.

Admission to this BYOB cabaret event is $10. A reception with an array of delicacies will follow the performance.

The evening will combine performances and readings of poems with jazz music. The trio will pay homage to poetry classics and intersperse readings of Jenkins’ poems from her upcoming chapbook, “Silence Has a Name,” soon to be published by Finishing Line Press, with recitations of well-known poems and performances by Connors and Palmer.

Jenkins, who is based in McDonald, is a writer of poetry, fiction and nonfiction whose work has appeared in numerous literary magazines. Her poetry recently was nominated for a Pushcart Prize, and she writes short stories for Jerry Jazz Musician, which commissioned her to write jazz fiction. Her first chapbook, “Jewel Fire,” was published by AllBook Books.

Connors is a song stylist who has performed in local clubs, at political events and at other venues, including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

Palmer has been a musical consultant and sound engineer for more than 20 years and plays several instruments. Both Connors and Palmer are longtime residents of Youngstown.
