Power of the Arts will present a free seminar on copyright laws from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at the McDonough Museum of Art, 525 Wick Ave. To register, go to powerofthearts.org. Cary Wecht is the moderator.

The session, presented by Atty. Denise Glinatsis Bayer and the Legal Creative, is designed to help artists protect their intellectual property. It will offer a primer on copyright law in terms nonlawyers can understand, and provide an overview of copyright and intellectual property laws and issues, dispelling some of the common myths such as the “poor man’s copyright.”

Contract essentials and negotiation skills also will be addressed.
