FOOTBALL

Poland, Crestview and JFK atop OHSAA computer ratings

Three area football teams are atop their respective divisions in the first Ohio High School Athletic Association computer ratings of the season.

Poland (4-0), Crestview (4-0) and Warren JFK (3-1) lead their divisions in ratings released Tuesday.

The Division III Bulldogs are atop Region 7 with 10.425 points. Canfield (3-1) is eighth in the same region.

The top eight teams in each region in Divisions II-VII qualify for the playoffs at the close of the regular season.

The Division V Rebels lead Region 15 with 7.55 points. LaBrae (3-1) is fifth and South Range (3-1) is seventh in the same region.

The Division III Eagles are atop Region 23 with 5.95 points. Jackson-Milton (4-0) is second in the same region with 5.575 points. Mathews (3-1) is sixth. Windham (3-1) is 10th.

Austintown Fitch (2-2) is 19th in Division I, Region 1. Each of the top 16 teams in the two big-school divisions qualify for the playoffs.

Warren Harding (4-0) is third in Division II, Region 3 with 9.0038 points.

Jefferson (3-1) and Hubbard (3-1) are seventh and eighth, respectively, in Division IV, Region 11. Lakeview (3-1) is ninth and Ursuline (2-2) is 10th.

Lisbon (4-0) is fourth in Division VI, Region 19 with 6.55 points. Springfield (2-2) is eighth with 4.15 points. Columbiana (3-1) is ninth and Brookfield (3-1) is tied for 11th.

VOLLEYBALL

Boardman 25-25-25, Girard 20-12-16

BOARDMAN

Carlie Angelo had 11 kills and five digs, Melanie Bakes had 15 assists, eight points, and one ace, and Makayla Trebella had 13 digs and six kills for Girard (6-6). Krista Johnson had 14 digs, 13 kills, and four aces, Katie Platt had 27 assists, and Haley Blangero had eight kills for Boardman (9-3). JV: Boardman 2-0.

Poland 25-25-25, Niles 16-22-9

NILES

Emma Dellinger had nine digs, six points, and two kills, Kaylie Lewis had seven digs, and Myah Busse had four kills and three digs for Niles. For Poland, Jill Penman had four kills, 17 points, and five aces, Logan Kountz had 12 kills, and Connie VanScorer had eight digs and five blocks. JV: Poland 2-0.

Struthers 25-27-25-25, Ursuline 16-29-18-23

STRUTHERS

Caitlin Kane had 14 kills, two aces and 25 digs for Struthers. Torre Smrek added 12 kills and Abby Hughes had four kills and seven aces.

South Range 25-25-25, Brookfield 15-18-18

BROOKFIELD

Tori Sheehan had 10 kills, nine blocks, and four points, Kenzie Drapola had 10 kills and 13 digs, and Katie Bender had 29 assists for Brookfield. Lynnie Ritter had 11 kills and four blocks, Emily Moretti had six kills, five digs, and twelve points, and Eliza Garlough had eight digs, 12 points, and two aces for South Range.

Western Reserve 25-25-25, Sebring 11-13-16

BERLIN CENTER

Tiana Nicopolis had 10 points, three aces, and 22 assists, Sydney Miller had eight points, five aces, and eight kills, and Alexis Miller had nine kills for Western Reserve. Sydney Smith had six kills, nine attacks, three points, and two aces, Lisa Cathey had 38 sets and nine assists, and Madi Kreitzer had five kills and 12 attacks for Sebring.

Lowellville 3, Mineral Ridge 1

MINERAL RIDGE

Courtney Conklin led Lowellville with 14 kills, 15 digs and four aces, while Hannah Johnston had 29 assists, five kills and 12 digs and Alyssa Anderson added eight blocks and four kills. Delaney Schumacher had 12 kills, 11 digs, three blocks and six aces and Anna Bodo had 16 kills, 26 digs, 13 blocks and one ace.

Ashtabula Lakeside 25-25-25, Hubbard 13-23-23

Addy Jarvis had 28 kills and eight points for Hubbard, Annie Zagorec had eight blocks and Emily Krinos had 34 assists for Hubbard.

MacKayla Kroll had six kills, Athena Burzynski made five aces and Adrianna Placania had 21 digs.

Salem 25-25-25-25, Minerva 27-15-9-11

Kacey Costal had 16 hits and nine blocks, Maria Shivers had 15 kills, and Elizabeth Aukerman had 19 points, six aces, and 25 assists for Salem. No stats were reported for Minerva. JV: Salem 3-0.

Edgewood 25-29-25, Warren Harding 9-27-23

Kayla Manningham had eight points and eight kills, Kristin Sampson had 23 assists, and Shymara Dykes had 5 blocks. No stats were reported for Edgewood. JV: Edgewood 2-0.

POLAND

David Watson scored for Poland off an assist by Matthew Holsinger. Bryan Montgomery had five saves for the Bulldogs. Kyle Brown made six saves for Champion. JV: Poland 2-1.

Cardinal Mooney 3, Ursuline 1

STRUTHERS

Seniors Nicholas Koken, Ahmed El Khafif and Mike Myers each scored for Mooney, while seniors Keyton Graff and Andrew Stille had assists for the Cardinals (4-5-1). Senior Dustin Hudak made one save. For Ursuline (2-5-1), senior Gianni Quattro had a goal off an assist from junior P.J. Conway. Junior Bryce Blazek made 16 saves. JV: 1-1.

Hubbard 7, Girard 0

HUBBARD

Andrew Summers, Aiden Sexton and Bashar Rasoul each had two goals and Sexton added an assist to power the Eagles.Ben Rubinic had a goal and two assists and Colin Burdette and Peter Pizanias each had an assist. Hubbard goalkeeper Jake Shaffer had seven saves. Girard’s Bailey McDermott had 13 saves.
