Centering Pregnancy program to open Oct. 7 at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital


AUSTINTOWN — Patricia Sweeney, the Mahoning County health commissioner, praised the upcoming opening of the Centering Pregnancy program on Oct. 7 by Mercy Health at its St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, Belmont Avenue, Youngstown.

Speaking during today’s meeting of the county board of health, Sweeney said that with the opening of the program at its Women’s Care Center Mercy Health, formerly Humility of Mary Health Partners, has changed the model for health care for women.

It its brochure, Mercy Health said that through the program women are empowered to choose health-promoting behaviors that lead to fewer preterm births, increased knowledge about pregnancy and parenting, increased breastfeeding and better prenatal care.
