47 overdose deaths
WARREN
Forty-seven people are confirmed to have died of accidental drug overdoses in Trumbull County so far this year, according to the county coroner’s office.
Those numbers do not include people who died in the past couple of months. The results of toxicology tests will be needed before a cause of death for those cases can be determined.
The county’s record high number of drug overdose deaths was 64 in 2007. But with the availability of cheap heroin and the number of fentanyl-related deaths hitting the county starting in April, law-enforcement officials expect 2015 to surpass that total.
Of the 47 deaths, 27 had a number of drugs in their system, including 21 who had heroin along with at least one other drug, said Shelley Mazanetz, chief investigator for the coroner’s office.
Sentenced for porn
WARREN
Christopher E. Kavalesky, 45, who listed addresses on Fenton Street, Niles, and Nottingham Avenue, Austintown, was sentenced to three years in prison Tuesday for possessing pornographic images of a teenaged girl on his cellphone and other child pornography on his computer.
His wife discovered the images on his phone when she borrowed it, causing her to kick him out of the house and call police, prosecutors said. That led to an examination of his computer.
He pleaded guilty earlier in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to one count of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, voyeurism and illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance.
