CAMPBELL
Two free walking tours of the Youngstown Sheet & Tube company homes will take place Saturday at 1 and 2 p.m.
The tours are sponsored by the Mahoning Valley Historical Society and the Iron Soup Historical Preservation Company, and will depart from IHPC, 40 Chambers St.
The Youngstown Sheet & Tube company homes increasingly are being recognized as one of the Mahoning Valley’s most significant historical places.
The homes recently were added to the Society of Architectural Historians’ collection of the 100 most important sites in Ohio
Saturday’s tours will have several highlights:
A visit to the only remaining all-original unit, complete with original plumbing and tinderbox stove.
A look at a before-and-after unit demonstrating the unique re-usability of the solid concrete structures.
The last remaining archway in the complex.
The mural that was painted in September 2014.
The tour will end at ISHPC offices, where visitors can look at maps, blueprints, census counts from the 1940s, 1920 city directories and more.
The tour will take approximately one hour and will take place rain or shine.
