Mahoning Valley unemployment dropped in August


The Mahoning Valley's non-seasonally local unemployment dropped from 6.6 percent down to 5.2 percent year over year in August, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services said today.

The number of unemployed dropped from 16,600 down to 13,000.

The number of employed went from 235,600 up to 237,800 year over year.

The civilian labor dropped from 252,000 down to 251,000.

Ohio’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in August, down from 5 percent.

The U.S. unemployment rate for August was 5.1 percent.
