City Community Police Unit sweeping neighborhoods
YOUNGSTOWN — The city's Community Police Unit is conducting the first of weekly crime sweeps this afternoon – and The Vindicator is riding along.
The sweeps started today on the South Side in the Sixth Ward. Detective Sgt. Pat Kelly, the head of the unit, said the unit will be joined by the Violent Crimes Task Force and the Adult Parole Authority.
So far officers have recovered drugs and at least one firearm.
