Average cost of gas in Ohio about $2.29

COLUMBUS

The average cost of gas for Ohio drivers has increased again from the previous week but is significantly less than it was a year ago or even a month ago.

The average for a gallon of regular gas in Ohio was about $2.29 in Monday’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc.

That’s 7 cents more than a week earlier. But it’s down 46 cents from a month ago, after prices temporarily spiked because of a partial shutdown at a refinery.

A year ago, the state average was $3.20.

The national average matched Ohio’s at $2.29 on Monday, down from about $2.33 a week ago and $3.34 at this time last year.

US home sales fell 4.8 percent in Aug.

WASHINGTON

U.S. home sales slid in August by the most since January as tight supplies and rising prices discouraged potential buyers.

The National Association of Realtors said Monday that sales of existing homes fell 4.8 percent from the previous month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.31 million, the lowest level since April.

That’s down from 5.58 million in July, which was the highest in more than eight years.
