OVI checkpoints, patrols this week

The Mahoning County OVI Task Force will be conducting two sobriety checkpoints this weekend.

There also will be local saturation patrols in Mahoning County throughout the week and weekend.

The primary goal of the Mahoning County OVI Task Force continues to be making the roadways in Mahoning County safer.

Scrap-tire collection

LIBERTY

Liberty Township will have a scrap-tire collection; drop-offs will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the administration building, 1315 Church Hill-Hubbard Road. The drive is for township residents only. No material from commercial businesses will be accepted. Only tires off rims will be taken, and there is a maximum of eight tires accepted per resident.

Forest Lawn lot owners to meet

The Mill Creek Memorial Park Association, doing business as Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Market St., will have an annual lot owners’ meeting at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel. All lot owners are invited to attend. For information, call 330-782-3386.

Wine shop robbed

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating an aggravated robbery Friday night on the city’s West Side. Two unidentified men robbed the store owner of the Mahoning Wine Shop, 1681 Mahoning Ave., at gunpoint. Both fled westbound on Mahoning Avenue, then southbound on Lakeview Avenue.

Robotics competition

The second annual Mahoning Valley FIRST Robotics Competition will take place Saturday at Warren G. Harding High School.

A total of 24 robotics teams from schools across Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York will compete between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The event, sponsored by the Northeast Ohio FIRST Robotics Alliance, is free.

Spectators are encouraged to bring nonperishable food to donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. Most-needed food items are peanut butter, cereal, canned fruit and vegetables, tuna fish, dry pasta, and macaroni and cheese.
