Columbiana student scores high on ACT
Staff report
COLUMBIANA
Jared Wilson, Columbiana High School sophomore, was recently recognized in an award ceremony hosted by the Center for Talent Development at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
The ceremony recognized students who scored in the top 1 percent to 2 percent of the more than 15,000 students who took an above-grade-level test through Northwestern University’s Midwest Academic Talent Search this past academic year.
As a high-school freshman, Jared participated in NUMATS and recorded a near-perfect 35 composite score on the ACT college admissions test.
Although the exam is typically administered to high-school students in their junior year, NUMATS allows eligible students to take internationally recognized tests before the grade levels at which they are normally administered.
Wilson also received a $600 tuition scholarship award for coursework sponsored by Northwestern’s Center for Talent Development and was invited to attend a NUMATS award ceremony in Columbus for the highest scorers in Ohio.
