Economic plan for city to be unveiled Tuesday

YOUNGSTOWN

Economic Development Strategies for the City of Youngstown, a project developed in partnership with Youngstown State University’s Center for Urban and Regional Studies, will be officially rolled out at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the YSU Community Room of the Covelli Centre in downtown Youngstown.

Major goals developed for the city based on the current economy, competitive advantages and best practices from other cities will be presented. Also presented will be a review of corridor opportunity sites and the Downtown Vision and Action plan.

Funding for the project was provided by a grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.

Aggravated robbery reported on South Side

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating an aggravated burglary on the city’s South Side on Sunday afternoon.

According to a police report, four individuals entered a home in the 800 block of Detroit Avenue. One of them pointed a hand- gun at a 69-year-old woman, demanding her car keys. They then drove away in her blue 2012 Chevrolet Impala.

Two of the suspects are juveniles.

Police said they have two suspects in custody, but additional information was unavailable.

Seminar on back pain

DAMASCUS

Family medicine physician, Dr. Jeffrey R. Cohen, D.O., from Firestone Healthcare Inc., is offering a free educational seminar about understanding back pain, including its causes, treatment and prevention, from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Damascus Friends Church, 28857 Walnut St.

After his presentation, staff from Auburn Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation will provide a demonstration of exercises that can be done at home to help relieve back pain. Light refreshments will be served, and RSVPs are not required to attend. For information, call 330-787-1715.

Man faces charges

YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested Joseph Lee Austin, 42, of Youngstown on charges of resisting arrest and attempted burglary Saturday evening.

Austin was found on the front porch of a home with the screen door open in the 1300 block of Maple Avenue at 5:06 p.m. He struggled with a police officer after being informed that police would detain him. A victim inside the home told police he was kicking in the back door and then the front door to get in.

Austin was then transported to the Mahoning County jail.

Boy hurt in accident

YOUNGSTOWN

A boy was taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries after an accident on the city’s South Side on Sunday evening.

Police said the boy was riding a go-kart and couldn’t see a car heading westbound on West Ravenwood Road because the sun was in his eyes. He attempted to exit the go-kart when the car hit him. The boy was transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
