Campbell mayoral candidate charged with felonious assault

CAMPBELL — A Campbell mayoral candidate is facing charges of felonious assault.

A 22-year-old man told police Nick Phillips, 51, punched him in the face and broke his jaw during a Aug. 5 fight outside Phillips’ Sycamore Drive home, according to a police report.

Phillips is running for mayor, and his name is on the November ballot. Phillips’ accuser is his wife’s daughter’s boyfriend.

Phillips told police in August he struck the man in self-defense when the man had attempted to push Phillips’ wife, a police report states.

Phillips will be arraigned at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Campbell Municipal Court.
