Both human and canine runners are welcome to enter Animal Charity Humane Society’s first Rover Fun Run 3k/5k place Oct. 3 at Mill Creek MetroParks Wick Recreation Area. Registration will be at 9 a.m; the run starts at 10. Entry fees are $25 for singles, $50 for a family of four and free for dogs. Register at Active.com; search Animal Charity Rover Fun Run. Adoptable dogs will be on hand and a carnival-themed party will take place after the race. Proceeds will benefit Animal Charity of Ohio. Volunteers needed

Community Legal Aid, a nonprofit law firm serving the civil legal needs of the low-income community, is seeking volunteers for the Volunteer Advocacy Legal Unit program in Mahoning County. Volunteers assist victims of domestic violence through the court process of obtaining a civil-protection order. An eight-hour training period is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Legal Aid office, 11 Central Square. The Audubon Society of Mahoning Valley invites you to learn how to save the monarch butterfly by providing suitable habitats in your yard. The monarch is decreasing due to habitat loss.
