Medical Alliance names Gem of the Year

Tammy Engle was honored as Mahoning County Medical Alliance Gem of the Year during a dinner meeting Aug. 25 at Magic Tree Pub and Eatery. The award is presented annually to a member who serves both the alliance and community with distinction.

Engle, who was raised in Brunswick, Ohio, moved to the Valley in 2004 with her husband, Dr. Mick Engle. She has a bachelor’s degree in special education from Kent State University and a master’s in education from Marygrove College. Engle taught special education at elementary and high school levels.

She has been a member of the medical alliance for 11 years, serving as treasurer for five years. Engle was co-chairman of the annual Alliance Charity Fashion Show for five years, which raised more than $50,000 for local charities in the Valley.

Engle is a member of Akron Children’s Hospital Kids Crew and the alliance’s TWIGS crafting program that benefits the hospital.

She is treasurer for her children’s Boy and Girl Scout troops. Engle also is involved with South Range Parent-Teacher Organization in the elementary and middle schools and is a classroom volunteer and fundraiser in the school district.

The Engles live in Canfield with their three children.

She also volunteers for charity events in the Ellicottville, N.Y., area including the Adapted Ski School at Holiday Valley Resort. Her family has hosted Challenger Soccer coaches from the United Kingdom for two years.
