Family Discovery Day set Oct. 10

Area residents are invited to explore their family history at the Roots Tech Family Discovery Day from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 10 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2205 Tibbetts-Wick Road.

The event is free and open to all ages.

Signup is requested so that all attendees will be accommodated. Register online at www.lds.org/familydiscoveryday. Click on “attendees sign up.”

Ron Barnhart, coordinator, said Family Discovery Day is for people who have a desire to know more about their family history and want to know how to get started.

Barnhart said the day will begin with a continental breakfast.

An introduction and overview of the classes will be presented by Sid Connor, president of the Youngstown Ohio Stake of the church.

FamilySearch.org, one of the most popular websites for genealogy, is sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The website is free, and anyone can use it.

The Family Research Center, located in the church building, will be open for people who want to learn what the center has available for researchers. There also will be a classroom for people who want to learn how to index records.
