Dogs rescued, citations expected

BERLIN CENTER

Reports said several citations are expected to be issued after deputies with the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office took two dogs from a home in the 14000 block of West Western Reserve Road about 7:15 a.m. Thursday.

Reports said deputies were called to the home by a neighbor on a report of a malnourished dog that was wandering on the road. When a deputy arrived, he found that dog in the driveway and another dog that was secured by its neck with both a rope and a strap that were attached to a tractor and a tree, respectively.

A deputy cut both restraints and found the dog had a large bruise on its neck from where it was restrained, reports said. The dog also had no access to food, water or shelter, reports said.

The dogs were taken by the county dog warden. The dog that had the bruise was taken for medical care, reports said. The homeowners were not home.
