Zarlenga wins golf tournament

SHARON, PA.

Josh Zarlenga (Youngstown Country Club) won the Northern Ohio Golf Association’s 2015 Tournament of Champions at Sharon Golf Club.

Zarlenga shot an even par 72, shooting 36s on each nine holes.

Marc Fried (Signature of Solon) finished one shot back after shooting a 38 on the front nine and 35 to finish.

Tim Skufca (Avon Oaks), Joe Albrecht (Firestone) and Kurt Peterson (Shady Hollow) tied for third by shooting 74.

Ditzler outing set

The Dave Ditzler Golf Outing is set for Sept. 26 at Mill Creek North golf course.

Bodybuilders gather at Fitch

The Second annual DFAC Cardinal Classic and Midwest Pro Open Men and Figure Competition for bodybuilders is set Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Fitch High School.

YSU softball team to honor Roepke

The Youngstown State softball program will be teaming up today with Shepherd of the Valley and Second Wind Dreams to help fulfill a dream of 88-year-old Jean Roepke at the YSU Softball Field.

A former softball player and coach, Roepke’s dream is to get back on the softball diamond. She’ll be taken today to the YSU Softball Complex for the 4 p.m. game against Kent State.

Second Wind Dreams program is an international, nonprofit organization with the goal of fulfilling the dreams of seniors living in elder care communities.

Roepke coached the Boardmanettes Fast Pitch softball team which was comprised of high school-aged girls who played at Boardman Park.

Farrell’s Chambers to play in Germany

FARRELL, PA.

Farrell High School graduate D’Asia Chambers has signed a contract to play professional basketball in Germany with the TuS Bad Aibling Fireballs.

Chambers earned many post eason honors in high school and college and was a 1,000 point scorer at both levels. She made the Dean’s List while playing for at Slippery Rock University.

USA defeats Haiti

Carli Lloyd added three more goals to her remarkable 2015 tally, leading the United States to another rout on its Women’s World Cup victory tour, 5-0 over Haiti.

Crystal Dunn added a goal and two assists, the 23-year-old’s first points for the national team, and Christen Press also scored for the Americans. The U.S. extended its home unbeaten streak to 99 games.

Former Pirates broadcaster dies

HOUSTON

Milo Hamilton, a Hall of Fame broadcaster who called Hank Aaron’s historic 715th home run in 1974, has died.

The Houston Astros announced the death of their longtime play-by-play man on Thursday. He was 88. Hamilton spent 60 years broadcasting MLB games,

In 1976, Hamilton replaced Bob Prince as the lead broadcaster for Pirates games. He joined the Astros in 1985.
