Police investigating gunfight downtown near Warren school

Staff report

WARREN

Police are reviewing video from a Warren City Schools building on Monroe Street Northwest downtown that captured a gunfight involving people in two vehicles that occurred across the street from the school at 11:07 a.m. Wednesday.

Because of the gunfire, students in the former Warren Board of Education building at 261 Monroe St. NW were moved to the back of the building, away from the Monroe Street side, a school official said.

The location is near the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, city hall, several professional offices, the YWCA and a large public parking lot.

It is one block north of Courthouse Square.

The school building houses Warren G. Harding High School ninth-graders taking classes needed to make up missed credits.

At 204 Monroe St. NW, police found an unoccupied car that is believed to have been involved.

They also found bullet-shell casings near 260 Monroe St., across the street from the school, and bullet holes on the front of the building, a police report says.

Witnesses said the gunfight began at 260 Monroe.

Police said no victims came forward indicating they were involved.
