Tuesday news conference canceled on alternative to Youngstown Plan

YOUNGSTOWN — A news conference by state Sen. Joe Schiavoni regarding suggestions for improving the city schools has been postponed.

The news conference had been set for Tuesday in Columbus and was to include Schiavoni of Boardman, D-33rd, and state Rep. Michele Lepore-Hagan of Youngstown, D-58th. The legislators have been gathering input from various segments of the community to develop an alternative to the Youngstown Plan, a law that would see a chief executive officer appointed to operate the school district.

A Schiavoni spokesman said the news conference will be rescheduled after the outcome of a Sept. 29 preliminary injunction hearing to stop the plan.
