POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Sept. 10

Menacing/identity fraud: A Wolosyn Circle woman reported having been stalked, and that her identity was compromised.

Sept. 11

Arrests: Police took into custody Brian L. Buttermore, 20, of Harvey Street, Struthers, and 19-year-old Scott M. Wanamaker of Jaronte Drive, Boardman. Both were wanted on township warrants.

Sept. 12

Theft: A 10-foot aluminum brake, two 24-foot extension ladders and a 24-foot scaffolding plank were stolen from Mahoning Valley Premier Home Improvements, 3235 Center Road.

BOARDMAN

Sept. 10

Theft/menacing: A man discovered a $75 propane fire pit missing from his residence in the 3900 block of South Schenley Avenue. He also reported having received several threatening calls.

Theft: A worker for a Market Street motel told officers a guest failed to pay a $220 room charge and took $18 worth of tools from the business.

Arrest/drugs: A traffic stop near South Avenue resulted in the arrest of 25-year-old Frank A. Zavatsky on a charge of obstructing official business when, authorities said, he refused to comply with officers who had probable cause to examine his vehicle’s exterior. Police also issued a minor-misdemeanor citation to Zavatsky, of Norquest Boulevard, Austintown, charging him with marijuana possession.

Harassment: A Glen Park Road man said he received the latest in a series of hang-up calls.

Harassment: A Glendale Avenue man reported a caller claiming to represent the Internal Revenue Service said the accuser would be deported if he failed to pay back taxes he supposedly owed from 2008 to 2013.

Theft: Nate Hasley, 25, of Manhattan Avenue, Youngstown, faced two theft counts after a $25 hand-held iron was stolen from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive. Hasley also was charged in a Feb. 7 shoplifting situation at Walmart in which a set of earrings was taken.

Theft: Someone stole $192 worth of perfume from Ulta Beauty, 403 Boardman-Poland Road.

Criminal mischief: A Dayton man who owns a home in the 300 block of Shields Road reported damage to 20 bricks, 12 feet of a fence and a 60-foot section of the yard. The damage estimate was $450.

Theft: Nicholas A. Chronister, 26, of Griswold Street, Warren, along with a 14-year-old Warren boy, faced a theft charge after $160 worth of property was stolen from Walmart.

Theft: Robert L. Wilson Jr., 36, of Groveport, Ohio, was picked up on a warrant accusing him of stealing $357 worth of merchandise Nov. 28, 2014, from Walmart.

Intimidation: Authorities responding to a complaint of someone yelling at passing motorists near South Avenue charged 61-year-old Norman J. Hageman of Meadowbrook Avenue, Boardman, with intimidation, a third-degree felony, and disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor. An intoxicated Hageman threatened several times to kill an officer who was about to issue him a ticket and take him home, a report showed.

Theft: A township man discovered $590 missing from his account at a Market Street bank.

Theft: A $14 card game was taken from Toys “R” Us, 317 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A Youngstown boy, 17, was accused of stealing a pocket knife from Walmart. The teen also was wanted on a Columbiana County warrant.

Theft: Scott M. Wanamaker, 19, was taken into custody at his Jaronte Drive home. The Boardman man was wanted on a Poland Township warrant.

Sept. 11

Arrest: A traffic stop in the 4100 block of South Avenue resulted in the arrest of Gareth L. White Jr. of Tampa Avenue, Youngstown. White, 34, was wanted on a Warren warrant charging domestic violence.

Assault: Police in Youngstown took custody of Gregory W. Hundley Jr. of East Ravenwood Avenue, Youngstown, who was charged with simple assault. On June 9, Hundley’s girlfriend, of Shields Road, alleged he punched her face, threw her to the ground and spit on her after the accuser had asked him to leave her residence.

Menacing: An Applewood Boulevard man said he’s received unwanted text messages, and that someone came to his home with a bag containing bullets from an undetermined firearm.

Drugs: Authorities at Southern Park Mall apprehended Lavonte E. Knight, 19, of West Ravenwood Avenue, Youngstown, who faced one felony count each of trafficking in heroin and cocaine as well as misdemeanor charges of obstructing official business, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. Found were two bags of suspected heroin totaling 5.5 grams, two bags containing a total of 7.5 grams of suspected cocaine and 10 pills, and a digital scale, police alleged. Beforehand, Knight had led officers on a foot chase, a report stated.

Harassment: An Arlene Avenue man said he’s received such calls and text messages.

Theft: A woman discovered her $300 iPhone missing while at a Doral Drive big-box store.

Arrest: Corey S. Bielik, 27, was taken into custody as officers conducted a vehicle check in the 5200 block of Market Street. Bielik, of Trenholm Road, Boardman, was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant charging receiving stolen property.

Criminal mischief: A woman told officers someone tossed an unknown object and struck her vehicle as she drove near Meadowbrook Avenue.

Possible theft: A man reported his wallet lost or stolen while at a Market Street restaurant.

Assault: A Buchanan Drive woman alleged her father’s girlfriend had hit her several times in the head during an argument between them.

Theft: A wallet, eight credit cards and $2,000 were stolen from a home in the 7900 block of Spartan Drive.

Theft: A West Boulevard man learned that his phone number had been used without authorization to steal fuel perks from a store discount card when he performed a transaction at a South Avenue gas station.

Theft: Marcy J. Fisher, 45, of Rush Boulevard, Youngstown, was charged with two counts of theft and one each of possession of criminal tools and drug paraphernalia after perfume, a book, several bottles of lotion and two pairs of socks were taken from Touchdown Gifts in Southern Park Mall, and merchandise also had been stolen from Victoria’s Secret in the mall. In addition, a suspected crack-cocaine pipe was found, police said.

Sept. 12

Arrest: Authorities responded to possible suspicious activity in the 50 block of Leighton Avenue, where they took into custody 28-year-old James C. Rogers of Detroit, who was wanted on a probation-violation charge from Wyandot County, Ohio.

Domestic violence: Sean D. McJunkin, 38, of Romaine Avenue, Boardman, was charged with the crime after his former girlfriend alleged McJunkin had left four voicemail messages containing multiple threats to harm and kill her and her family.

Theft/drugs: Dana R. Mastroianni, 33, of Linden Street, New Castle, Pa., faced charges of theft and possession of criminal tools, drug paraphernalia and drug-abuse instruments after seven pairs of jeans were stolen from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall. Mastroianni also used a pair of wire cutters to remove the items’ security sensors, and had a spoon with burn marks common in drug use as well as a hypodermic syringe, a report said.

Theft: Two women reportedly stole a $49 car stereo/MP3 adapter from Walmart.

Theft: William J. Navarro, 38, of East Philadelphia Avenue, Youngstown, was picked up in the 5600 block of Youngstown-Poland Road after having been accused of stealing $108 worth of merchandise Aug. 14 from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road.

Assault: A woman alleged a man had dragged her from her Sylvia Lane residence and threw her against a neighbor’s fence during an argument, resulting in injuries that included a bruised right shoulder and redness to her neck.

Theft: A woman removed a $20 cellphone charger from Walmart.

Domestic violence: Warren police handed to township authorities 25-year-old Chelsey N. Lewis of Commerce Avenue, Warren, who was wanted on a domestic-violence charge after her mother, of Mathews Road, alleged Lewis had held her by the neck against a door and tossed her onto a bed during an argument related to Lewis’ children. The accuser complained of neck and shoulder pain.

Theft: A Canfield man left a Southern Boulevard big-box store, then noticed his vehicle’s spare tire missing.

Drugs: Police on Southern Boulevard pulled over and arrested 35-year-old Bridgett A. Knight of Fincastle Lane, Youngstown, on charges of drug abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia after alleging a metal device with suspected drug residue and a small rock thought to be cocaine were found. Also taken into custody was 33-year-old Paul H. Hartman II, same address, who was wanted on a Struthers warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Theft: John C. Purucker Jr., 62, of Sharon Drive, Boardman, was charged with stealing a $65 Cleveland Browns polo shirt from Dick’s Sporting Goods, 550 Boardman-Poland Road.

Sept. 13

Drugs: While answering a suspicious-person call in the 900 block of Mathews Road, officers charged Jay R. Weston of Main Street, New Middletown with possession of drug-abuse instruments after alleging the 29-year-old Weston had a hypodermic needle.

Felonious assault: A South Schenley Avenue woman alleged a man had tossed a shoe at her, then punched and slapped her several times and shoved her into a door during a fight.

Domestic violence: A 17-year-old township boy was booked after his father alleged the teen threatened to harm him and came toward the accuser in a threatening manner after the father confronted him about having sneaked into the residence through a second-floor window.

Theft: Ricky C. Jordan Jr., 31, of Bassinger Road, North Lima, was charged with stealing a computer flash drive and a Bluetooth headset from Walmart.

Criminal mischief: A woman in the 7600 block of Huntington Drive saw that someone had covered her vehicle with a white paintlike substance.

Drugs: Authorities responded to a report of a possible gunshot in the 4200 block of Hillman Way, where they took into custody 25-year-old Andre V. Hallman of Wirt Street, Youngstown, on charges of drug abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia. Found was a suspected crack-cocaine pipe and other contraband, police alleged.

Criminal damaging: Someone spray-painted graffiti on a home in the 1700 block of Palo Verde Drive and damaged some landscaping lights.

Assault: A man alleged an employee with a Southern Park Mall eatery, and possibly three or four other people, punched and kicked him after he was knocked to the ground, apparently during what began as a disagreement with a restaurant manager regarding the victim’s bill had escalated.

Theft: A Youngstown girl, 15, was accused in the theft of $137 worth of clothing from Macy’s.

Theft: Police charged 30-year-old Kristan M. Belanger with theft after alleging Belanger, of Creed Street, Struthers, had stolen $92 worth of Halloween decorations from Marc’s, 7121 Tiffany Blvd.

Sept. 14

Assault/criminal damaging: A Hubbard woman alleged her boyfriend had pushed her to the ground, slapped her and intentionally damaged her cellphone during a fight between them in the 3900 block of Hudson Drive.
