Poland Schools debuts peer-mentoring program

POLAND — Poland Schools today debuted "Big Dog Little Dog," a peer-mentoring program in which 45 high-school students help out at Union Elementary twice a week.

Students are assigned to different time slots throughout the day, and will be assigned to different activities and classrooms.

The program, Union Elementary Principal Mike Masucci says, is mutually beneficial.

"I think this provides the kids at the high school an opportunity to showcase their leadership skills," he said. "I'm optimistic that it will have a powerful impact and demonstrate what it takes to be a leader."

Masucci, who developed the program, would like to expand it to other Poland schools in the future.
