Poland schools are incorporating a new mentoring program for the upcoming school year of 2015-16.

Administrators are combining their efforts to successfully implement a Big/Little Dogs mentoring program to help both younger and older students grow together within the Poland community.

Principal Michael Masucci, one of the administrators spearheading the program, said he has high expectations for the older students participating in this program, students will be confronted with uncomfortable situations and conversations and should act appropriately.

“This is about being respectful,” Masucci said.

Masucci said he plans to have at least six high school students from Poland Seminary High School in Poland Union Elementary School every period of the high school day. He envisioned them walking with the younger students in the hallways, acting as mentors or even doing small acts such as helping students with straw wrappers at lunch.

Masucci said he wanted student involvement in introducing speakers and musical performances such as band and choir concerts, as well.

“I think we have great kids in this community and we could build future leaders by getting these kids off the ground,” Masucci said. “it’s well on its way. This could be their moment to shine.”
