Boys cross country places fourth

On Sept. 12, the Boardman High School boys cross country team traveled to Dover City Park to run in the Dover Invitational. The boys came in fourth with 97 points.

Senior Ethan Schwendeman took sixth place overall out of 118 runners in a time of 18:13.

The Spartans were without two of the usual top five runners for the meet, but were able to battle a tough course to place fourth.

“It was challenging in many areas of the course. Couple that with losing two guys and having another get injured while running and it was a tough day to say the least,” said Boardman head coach John Phillips.

The Spartans scorers, along with Schwendeman, were junior Chris Butler in seventh place at 18:25, junior Nathaniel Ams in 15th at 19:12, sophomore Mark Moradian at 20:00 in 31st place, and junior Matt Maroni in 38th at 20:21.

Setting a new personal best at Dover was sophomore Carl Jacobson at 22:05. This week’s BW-3 Runner of the Week was freshman Andrew Beichner for his continued improvement and efforts the past three weeks.
