Manager of Warren apartment building says tenants have to move out

WARREN

The manager of the Reeves Apartments at 295 West Market St. downtown says the owner of the building has given notices to the 18 people living there telling them they will have to move out by the end of October.

“Some people are upset, including myself. I have to find someplace else to live, too,” said the manager, who would only give his first name, David.

The residents received the notices last week, giving them six weeks to relocate.

The building will go up for sale Oct. 1 because the owner can no longer keep it operating because of various problems that she cannot afford to take care of, David said.

Among them are elevator, fire-alarm and electrical issues.

The building has 63 apartments on seven floors, including the basement, but it has not been fully occupied in recent years, he said.

David said he’s been manager for three years and believes the building was built about 1926 and once provided apartments for maids and butlers working in homes along Millionaire’s Row a short distance north on Mahoning Avenue Northwwest.

The Reeves building is just west of Courthouse Square, along the Mahoning River and across from the offices of the Greater Warren-Youngstown Urban League.
