Theater presents murder-mystery

SALEM

Salem Community Theater’s 39th season will open Friday with the Agatha Christie mystery “A Murder Is Announced.” The play will run two weekends.

Directed by Chris Fidram, the cast of the murder-mystery includes Brenda Zyvith, Ruth Newman, Micaela Kreuzwieser, Denise Sculli, Barbara Evans, Joanna Andrei, Terry Shears, Jimmy Rosen, Ron Altomare, Carl Brockway, Mark Kholos and Shannon Shopinsky.

The plot revolves around a disturbing notice that appears in the local newspaper, giving the specific date, time and place that a murder will occur. When indeed it does, the sleuth Miss Marple attempts to solve the mystery. The play includes all of the typical Agatha Christie elements, including plot twists, quirky suspects and witty dialogue.

“A Murder” marks Fidram’s first directorial project at Salem Community Theater. It’s been a while since the Mahoning Valley theater veteran even appeared on the Salem stage: 25 years, to be exact, in a production of the comedy “The Nerd.”

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday, through Sept. 27. For reservations, call 330-332-9688.
