State and federal civil-rights laws are on the agenda for the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber’s “HR Hot Topics” session planned for next Thursday. Speakers will discuss discrimination in employment, highlighting important emerging issues.

Breakfast begins at 7:15 a.m. at Residence Inn, 555 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles. The program begins at 8.

This session is sponsored by Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic and has been approved for 1 credit-hour toward the PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification.

Racino anniversary

Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course, 655 N. Canfield-Niles Road, will mark its first anniversary beginning today with a three-day celebration featuring birthday cake, live entertainment and a special birthday promotion that will give patrons a chance to win $30,000 in cash and free play.

The celebration begins at 7 p.m. with the first drawing in the $30,000 giveaway and free birthday cake for everyone in the facility.

Skedaddles closing

Skedaddles Indoor Playground, 8061 Market St. in Boardman, announced Wednesday it would close Nov.30 after about five years in business.

Several factors led to the decision, but increasing costs to run the business, most specifically the rent, were the main factors, the owner said in a news release.

Ribbon-cutting set

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will have a ribbon-cutting for Sugar Love Studios, 1795 Elm Road NE, at 10 a.m. Friday.

Sugar Love Studios offers custom-cake creations, including 3-D carved cake designs, cookies, cupcakes, cake pops and other sweet treats baked on-site using fresh, natural ingredients.

Kohl’s holiday jobs

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis.,

Kohl’s anticipates hiring more than 69,000 employees nationwide this holiday season to support seasonal business in stores and growth on Kohls.com.

Kohl’s anticipates hiring an average of 50 employees per store at its 1,166 stores in 49 states.

In the Mahoning Valley there are two Kohl’s locations: 383 Boardman-Poland Road in Boardman and 2350 Niles-Cortland Road SE in Warren.

Update delayed

NEW YORK

Apple is delaying a big software update for the Apple Watch because it found a bug that is taking longer than expected to fix.

Apple Inc. said in a statement that it was not releasing watchOS 2, the new operating system for the Watch, on Wednesday as planned. It did not say when it will launch, only that it will happen “shortly.”
