National drag racing champ to appear at East Side outdoor concert today


YOUNGSTOWN — Killer Brooks, the first African-American in the world to win the National Drag Racing Championship, will be a featured sports celebrity at an outdoor concert today at the Johnson-Bailey Park on Knapp and East Miltonia avenues on Youngstown’s East Side.

Brooks will bring his championship race car – the 1992 Z24 Cavalier – and his 2012 Pro-Extreme Camaro.

The cars will drive into the park between 4:15 and 4:30 p.m. and remain on display throughout the concert, which features Billy Beck, formerly of the R&B group Ohio Players from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Brooks will be available to take photographs and sign autographs.
