U.S. marshals arrested two people in Youngstown Monday in connection with a homicide in Columbus.

Danyell Florida, 37, and Kalene Bartlett, 22, are each charged with abuse of a corpse, according to a news release from the Columbus Police Department.

A news release from the department said both listed a home on South Champion Avenue as their address where the body of a man was found in a basement Sunday. The release did not name the man but said he appeared to have been dead for some time, and he was reported missing Sept. 7.

The man’s death was ruled a homicide, the 69th of the year in Columbus, according to the release.

Florida and Bartlett are in the Mahoning County jail pending their return to Columbus.

Man trapped inside burning house

YOUNGSTOWN

Reports said a man dragging burning mattresses out of his 493 W. Princeton Ave. home early Tuesday trapped himself inside his home after the mattresses caught the furniture on fire.

The man was pulled out of the home by city firefighters, who were called to the home about 2:35 a.m.

When they arrived, they found burning mattresses on the front yard and noticed the door was open. Firefighters then went outside and brought out the homeowner and his cats.

Reports said the man told firefighters he had fallen asleep in bed smoking and the bed caught on fire. The man woke up and dragged the mattresses outside, making two trips, but when he went back inside a third time for his cats, he was trapped by the flames caused by the mattresses he was dragging outside.

The man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center to be treated for his injuries. Damage is listed at $3,000.
