Singer David Allen Coe pleads guilty to obstructing IRS

CINCINNATI (AP) — Federal authorities say country music singer-songwriter David Allan Coe has pleaded guilty in Cincinnati to obstructing the IRS and owes more than $466,000.

A federal prosecutors’ release says Coe, 76, pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court to impeding and obstructing due administration of Internal Revenue laws. Court documents say Coe performed at least 100 concerts yearly and from 2008 through 2013 failed to file individual income-tax returns or pay taxes when he did file.

Authorities say he also owed money for prior years and spent money earned from concerts on other debts and gambling.

The writer of the song “Take This Job and Shove It” could face up to three years in prison and be fined up to $250,000.
