Google gives Internet safety demonstration in Canfield
CANFIELD — Canfield school officials hosted Google employees for a workshop this morning geared toward Internet safety for children.
U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson of Marietta, R-6th, helped to get the program to Canfield Village Middle School. This is the first Ohio school Google has done this for, company officials said.
Google officials focused on password security and strength, among other points.
"You've got more remote-controlled pilots" such as drones "... than you do pilots of planes," Johnson remarked to a gym full of middle school students.
He further highlighted how "interconnected" the world is, giving examples of bank accounts and national intelligence.
"There's some very real reasons to be cautious. You don't want people to find out" things about you that you don't want out there, he said.
Canfield schools did not spend any money to host the program for students in fifth through eighth grade this morning.
