Gordon Wean, chairman of the Raymond John Wean Foundation and board member of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, has been selected as this year’s recipient of the Ohio Philanthropy Award.

Wean, a member of the board of the Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation, will receive the award at Philanthropy Ohio’s conference in Cincinnati on Friday.

“I am deeply honored by this recognition from Philanthropy Ohio. While I could never have anticipated this award, I will say it is particularly gratifying that it comes from my peers in the philanthropic community,” said Wean, who served on the Philanthropy Ohio Board of Trustees for nine years and was its chairman in 2012 and 2013.

In announcing Wean’s selection, Philanthropy Ohio President Suzanne T. Allen said, “I am so pleased to present Gordon with our lifetime achievement award that recognizes his volunteer philanthropic service in many organizations aimed at improving the quality of life in Northeast Ohio.”

As a board member of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, Wean was instrumental in the foundation transition from one focused on attracting funds to one focused on strategic philanthropy and community impact, said Shari Harrell, CFMV president.
