Street closings

YOUNGSTOWN

A Walk Against Heroin, sponsored by the March of Dimes, will affect streets in Youngstown through 6 p.m. today.

The walk begins at the former South Field House at Market Street and Delason Avenue, and there will be rolling closures to the Mahoning County Courthouse. Market Street between Commerce and Boardman streets also will be affected.

Tour canceled

YOUNGSTOWN

Today’s tour of historic Oak Hill Cemetery on the city’s South Side by local historian Steffon Jones set for 1 p.m. has been canceled. Jones said the tour has been rescheduled for 1 p.m. Sept. 26 at the cemetery, 344 Oak Hill Ave. For information, call Jones at 330-259-2091.

Fall festival

LIBERTY

Liberty Health Care Center and Liberty Arms Assisted Living, at 1353-1355 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, next to the township administration building, will host a fall festival Sunday. The Rev. Stephen Popovich will celebrate a polka Mass at 11 a.m. Father Popovich has requested no cameras during the Mass.

A festival will follow and continue until 4 p.m., featuring local crafters and vendors, games, food and a petting zoo.

Panera Bread sued

YOUNGSTOWN

A New Middletown woman is suing Panera Bread for more than $25,000 in compensatory damages, saying she suffered a severe allergic reaction requiring emergency-room treatment after a worker at the Canfield store served her an artichoke bagel instead of the spinach bagel she ordered.

Atty. Douglas Taylor filed the complaint this week in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on behalf of Lisa Butryn of Tree Line Trail, alleging the worker negligently served the wrong bagel Sept. 13, 2013.

Atty. Allen Ryan, staff counsel for Covelli Enterprises of Warren, which owns the store, declined to comment on the lawsuit, which demands a jury trial and is assigned to Judge R. Scott Krichbaum.

Autumn Festival

Howland Community Church, 198 Niles-Cortland Road SE, will host Smokey’s Autumn Festival at 11:15 a.m. Sunday to celebrate the life of the late Smokey Cunningham, a longtime church member and community sports enthusiast.

This year would have been his 100th birthday.

The event will feature food, games, crafts, a car show and a baking contest for children.

Block party Sunday

GIRARD

First United Methodist Church, 22 N. Market St., will host a community block party from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. The free event will include food, petting zoo and games.

Fredericka to speak at union meeting

BOARDMAN

Judge James A. Fredericka of Trumbull County Probate Court will address the United Auto Workers Union Local 1112 Retirees about the Trumbull County Veterans Assistance Program, Senior Court, and Guardian Angels program. The meeting will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at Antone’s Banquet Center, 8578 Market St.

Park road closures

YOUNGSTOWN

These roads in Mill Creek Park will be periodically closed on a rotational basis to vehicular traffic, cyclists and pedestrians from Monday through Friday for road work: West Golf, East Cohasset, Robinson Hill, West Glacier and Calvary Run drives.
