Struthers police release more details on jail suicide
STRUTHERS
Officials found Peter Bugno, 43, of Boardman, who had been arrested for disorderly conduct, dead in a holding cell at Struthers City Jail around 8:40 a.m. Thursday morning. The man had hanged himself, Police Capt. Patrick Bundy said. The coroner's office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating the death. The man was not on suicide watch, Bundy said.
Detective Jeff Lewis said Bugno had been booked around 5:30 a.m. Lewis said it is protocol to check on inmates every hour and said that officers had followed protocol.
Police said Bugno had been arrested near Youngstown-Poland Road along with a 53-year-old man for disorderly conduct around 4 a.m. that morning. The 53-year-old man has since been released after posting bond, police said.
