STRUTHERS
A judge granted a continuance for the pretrial of Gust Mamounis, 38, of Struthers, after his attorney’s request to file for the case to be tried before a jury.
Mamounis, who was arrested June 18, faces charges of aggravated menacing and disorderly conduct. He will face another pretrial hearing at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 9.
According to police reports, Mamounis followed a group of children along Elm Street while holding a gun, threatening to kill the children and using racial slurs. Two of the children were black, police said.
An iPhone video shows a physical altercation between Mamounis’ daughter and another girl, who is white, in front of Mamounis’ Hawthorne Street home.
The video shows Mamounis leaving his home while the girls were fighting. In the video, Mamounis is shown holding a handgun, which he had removed from its holster. Police later determined the .40-caliber handgun was loaded.
Though the video cut out soon after Mamounis left the house, multiple parties stated that Mamounis began to follow the girl who had been fighting with his daughter, along with a group of other children along Elm Street, while holding the gun and making threats.
Mamounis made a 911 call himself in which he made threats against the children and repeatedly used the N-word, police said.
