Police say man hanged himself in Struthers jail cell after disorderly conduct arrest

City jail officials found a 43-year-old man who had been arrested on charges of disorderly conduct dead in a holding cell shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday.

The man had hanged himself, Capt. Patrick Bundy said.

The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating the death.

Police declined to release the man’s name, pending notification of his family. He was not on suicide watch, Bundy said.

Police said the 43-year old man had been arrested near Youngstown-Poland Road along with a 53-year-old man for disorderly conduct around 4 a.m. Thursday. The 53-year-old has since been released after posting bond, police said.

Police declined to immediately disclose what the man used to hang himself or the reason for the disorderly-conduct arrests, citing the ongoing investigation.
