The Canfield freshman football team opened its 2015 season with a 34-6 victory over Louisville at Bob Dove Field.
Louisville struck first when they returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown. Canfield responded on the next possession when fullback Max Dawson plunged into the endzone from 2-yards out to knot the score. Quarterback Glenn Griswold put the Cardinals up for good when he found PJ Hallof down the seam for a 77-yard scoring toss. Finding themselves pinned on their own 10-yardline on their next possession, Griswold again found Hallof, who hurdled a defender for a 60-yard gain to the visitors 28. Griswold rumbled 28-yards on the next play to paydirt and an 18-6 Canfield lead after one quarter.
The home team struck again in the waning moments of the first half when Griswold threw a fade down the right sideline to a leaping Matt Zaremski who hauled it in for the score. Griswold hit Dawson with the conversion toss for a 26-6 halftime lead. Vince Giordano put the finishing touches on the victory when he blasted over left tackle for a touchdown and then tacked on a two point conversion run for the final margin.
Jared Tincher, Carter Myers and Jake Donadee were cited for their line play. Defensively, Tyler Stein, Colin Hritz and Jake Whittenberger were standouts.
