Changes from the classroom to the cafeteria

Principal Michael Masucci said everyone was still adjusting to the changes made in Poland elementary schools.
Some of changes were the starting and ending dates of the school year.
Students started about two weeks earlier than they had ever started before and got out late the previous school year due to so many snow days.
However, the short break will be worthwhile, Masucci said, because students will begin to have their countdown to the end of the school year around mid-May — the early start allows them an earlier end for the summer.
Masucci said the first day of school Union had more than 400 students walk in and out of their doors, filling up the school more than ever before students.
With the influx of so many students, 12 new staff members joined the Union family with the transition of students by grade throughout the schools.
This influx allowed Masucci to have greater influence over something he wanted to do for a very long time — have recess before lunch.
“We have three separate lunches, cafeteria is crowded but we are making it work,” Masucci said.
Union also acquired a new driveway to help with bussing along with additional parking space.
“Sixteen buses just roll through here and it’s nice — no traffic jams,” Masucci said.
Also in the works for renovations for Union, Masucci is having an elevator put in for students with disabilities.
