Canfield Presbyterian Church Weekday Preschool hosted its Open House for the 2015-2016 school year on Aug. 19. The children were able to enjoy playing together with each other and all of the toys, under the watchful supervision of some of the teachers, parents and grandparents, while the other parents adjourned upstairs to learn all of the details of the program for the coming year from Preschool Director Karen Morvay, after which any questions that they had were answered.

The school was open for the families to explore so that the children could get familiar with their new classrooms.

Canfield Presbyterian Church Weekday Preschool provides children with a variety of learning experiences which will stimulate their curiosity, challenge their physical and intellectual abilities, foster their creativity and encourage self-expression and independence as well as develop a sense of self-fulfillment.

While the preschool is church-sponsored, it is not their intent to teach doctrine. They hope that the loving Christian atmosphere offered will touch a child’s life in a positive way and help to make the transition from home to school less difficult.

Canfield Presbyterian Church Weekday Preschool utilizes a unit-based curriculum taught in a play-oriented environment. Unit topics are chosen according to the play interests and abilities of young children. Classrooms are arranged with well-defined interest center table toys and other manipulative toys: housekeeping, math, blocks, language arts, science, sand and water. A special motor development center is set up for the development of the child’s large muscles. Opportunities are provided for exercising and other forms of active play.

The preschool offers a two-day morning class for children ages 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon; a three-day morning class for children ages 4 and 5 on Monday from 9 a.m. until noon, enrichment is Wednesday 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. until noon. They also offer a three-day afternoon class for 4 and 5-year-olds on Monday from 1:15 to 4:15 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 12:15 to 4:15 p.m.

The teaching staff consists of Karen Morvay (preschool director and teacher), Miranda Morvay (preschool teacher), Sherrie Jacobs (preschool teacher), Peggy Brucoli (preschool teacher) and Tracie Schrader (substitute teacher).

The first day of school was Sept. 9.
