Salem Library plans fall activities

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., is offering several activities for fall. The LEGO Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays from now through Nov. 10. The projects use WeDo, a basic robotic LEGO kit that combines elements of building and computer programming to make creations move, and LEGO Storystarter, which uses LEGOs and an iPad to aid in writing a comic book based on creations made. No registration is necessary for this free program. All materials are supplied. For information, call the Children’s Department at the library, 330-332-0042 or visit the library.

Hands On for children in kindergarten through second grade will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday. A Minecraft Mayhem program will be featured by creating crafts, playing games and exploring the world of the popular video game. All materials will be supplied. Registration is required by visiting the website at www.salem.lib.oh.us. or by calling the library.

Film Frenzy will begin at 6 p.m. Thursdays on Sept. 17, Oct. 1, 15, 29, Nov. 12 and Dec. 3 and 17 in the library’s Quaker Room. All are invited to attend these G or PG films. To find out what movie will be shown, call the library or stop by and pick up a schedule. No registration is required.

To celebrate the release of “The Sword of Summer” by Rick Riordan, the library will have a mythology celebration at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at Centennial Park, Pavilion 2 (by the playground) for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. For those interested in the mythology of the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians or Nordic cultures, there will be quests, legends, games and other activities. Registration is necessary beginning next Thursday by visiting the website or calling the library.

Full STEAM Ahead for children in grades three through six will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21 in the Quaker Room and will feature science, technology, art and library exploration during each session. This month, the theme is Minecraft Mayhem with crafts, games and other activities. Registration will be welcome beginning Monday at the website or by calling the library.
