Police captain killed in 3-vehicle crash in southwest Ohio

NEW CARLISLE, Ohio (AP) — The State Highway Patrol says a city police captain has been killed in a three-vehicle crash in southwest Ohio.

A patrol statement says 45-year-old Steven Bucholtz, of New Carlisle, was killed in the crash Wednesday afternoon on U.S. 40 in Clark County west of New Carlisle. A dispatcher with the patrol’s Springfield post says Bucholtz was a captain with the Harveysburg Police Department in Warren County but was in his personal vehicle.

Troopers says Buchholtz died when a pickup truck headed west rear-ended a car and then went left of center and into the path of Buchholtz’s east-bound car.

The driver of the truck refused treatment. The driver of the other car was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation into what caused the accident is continuing.
