YOUNGSTOWN
Youngstown Symphony Society developed the Society of Adventurous Diners to attract Valley diners to the Overture Restaurant in the DeYor Performing Arts Center downtown.
The society will begin a series of dining experiences featuring food and wines from the world’s market basket along with musical entertainment.
Lumberjack will be the first event of the season Sept. 17 and will highlight foods and wines of the Northwest with a selection of seafood from the Pacific shores, award-winning wines from the hillside vineyards of Oregon and Washington and hearty meats from America’s grasslands.
Valley residents may join in the world-wide celebration of the annual release of France’s Beaujolais at Nouveau Beaujolais on Nov. 19. The gaiety of a Parisian sidewalk cafe will be evident with French bistro specialties paired with the new release brought directly from France for the occasion.
On Jan. 21, 2016, Overture will offer a New England seaside clambake with fresh lobster, steamers, red skin potatoes and corn on the cob along with other Overture signature dishes.
Celebrate Dyngus Day, when everyone is Polish, on March 28 with an array of Polish foods, desserts and polka music.
On May 17, Diecisiete de Mayo, Overture will present foods and wines of Spain inspired by Moorish traditions in the south and French country cooking in the north.
Membership in the Society of Adventurous Diners is not required to attend the events. S.A.D. members will receive special seating at events, S.A.D. newsletters filled with recipes and fun facts, invitations to members-only special programs including wine tastes and cooking demonstrations and a chance to win an Overture gift certificate and free Youngstown Symphony Orchestra concert tickets.
Katie Merrill is S.A.D. coordinator. Jeffrey Chrystal is Overture executive chef.
Membership in the Society of Adventurous Diners is $25 per person. Call the Youngstown Symphony box office at 330-744-0264 for information or to enroll as a member of S.A.D.
