Mall to repave lot
YOUNGSTOWN
Southern Park Mall, 7401 Market St., continues to update its roof and will have a parking-lot renovation program. The project is scheduled to be completed in two to four weeks.
The renovation will include the striping, milling and refilling of sections of the property’s paved surfaces. The mall’s J.C. Penney West Lot, Firestone West Lot, California Avenue entrance and Sears North Lot will undergo repaving one area at a time.
The mall is scheduled to complete its roof project in December. SRI Roofing specialists of New Castle, Pa., are in the process of tearing off and re-installing 318,600 square feet of the property’s roof.
Gander Mountain to expand its store
HOWLAND
Gander Mountain Co., a retail network of outdoor speciality stores, will expand its presence in the Mahoning Valley with a new store on the site of its current facility.
The new Gander Mountain store will be at 2390 Niles-Cortland Road in Howland, in a new 61,300-square-foot facility. The current store, which opened in 1999 and has 31,000 square feet of retail space, will be torn down and replaced by a facility that is nearly double the size. Gander Mountain will operate out of a temporary space in the Howland Commons shopping center while the new store is under construction.
The store is expected to open in spring 2016.
Menards opens
WARREN
Menards’ new home-improvement store in Warren has opened at 2015 Walmart Drive. The store is open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Ribbon-cutting set
SALEM
There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. today at the new Hospice of the Valley location, 2388 Southeast Blvd. Suite B, in Salem.
Drill permits issued
COLUMBUS
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued six horizontal drilling permits during the week of Aug. 30 through Sept. 5. There were three permits issued in Harrison County and three issued in Washington County. A total of 2002 permits have been issued, 1,588 wells have been drilled and 1,004 wells are producing in the Utica Shale play.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection issued two permits for drilling in Lawrence County during the week of Aug. 30 through Sept. 5. There were zero permits issued in Mercer County.
Business Blitz
YOUNGSTOWN
The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley, in partnership with Cumulus Radio, is conducting the first Business Blitz today.
During the blitz, United Way staff will stop at small and medium-sized businesses throughout the day. Businesses that make a donation to the United Way will get their business name and locations mentioned on air on Hot 101, K-105 and Y-103. Any business that gives $500 or more is eligible for a drawing to win a $1,000 advertising package from Cumulus.
