Dog shot during break in, sent to emergency clinic

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating after they found a dog shot while inside a cage about 11:10 p.m. Sunday in a home in the 300 block of East Florida Avenue.

Reports said officers were called to the home for a break in and when they arrived the back door was kicked in and the dog had a wound to its chest. Police also recovered a spent 9mm shell casing from inside the home.

The homeowner said he was with his family at the Canfield Fair when he received a call from his alarm company about the break in and came home.

It is not known if anything was taken. The dog was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic by a family member, reports said.
