OCA meeting on Cuba is Sept. 14

The next meeting of the Ohio Cultural Alliance will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 14 at Holy Family Church Hall, 2729 Center Road.

The topic is “Going Places with the Ohio Cultural Alliance: Cuba,” and the featured speaker is George D. Beelen, Ph.D.

Beelen has a long history of teaching at Youngstown State University and speaking in the community about Latin America and U.S.-Latin American relations. He has traveled to many countries in Latin America, including twice to Cuba.

Madure Catering of New Castle will prepare the meal.

Cultural enrichment for the event will be provided by the dancers from Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Boardman. Travis Manera will direct the costumed group in a selection of Latin American dances.

This month’s recipient of the community project is the Gleaners. Attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food items.

Membership for this transitional year – September 2014 to December 2015 – is $25 per person for the entire 14-month schedule. The cost for each meeting is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers.
