Country music icon Merle Haggard will come to Packard Music Hall in Warren on Thursday. The concert was originally scheduled for June 25 but was postponed just before the show because Haggard was recovering from an outpatient surgical procedure. Here are five facts about the outlaw-country pioneer:
v Early days: Influenced by Bob Wills, Lefty Frizzell and Hank Williams, Haggard started playing guitar at age 12.
v A real outlaw: As a young man, Haggard was jailed for a botched robbery attempt. While incarcerated at San Quentin, he was in the audience when Johnny Cash performed a concert at the jail. Haggard said it changed his life.
v Last chart-topper: Haggard’s last No. 1 hit song was 1987’s “Twinkle, Twinkle Lucky Star” from the album “Chill Factor.”
v Hit maker: Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994, Haggard has 38 No. 1 hits to his credit.
vMerle and Willie: Earlier this summer, Haggard and Willie Nelson released their sixth collaboration, “Django & Jimmie.”
“Arthur & George” (8 p.m., PBS): “Arthur & George” is a three-part “Masterpiece Mystery!” adaptation of the Julian Barnes’ novel, starring Martin Clunes as famed author Arthur Conan Doyle. In the opener, he’s asked to clear a man convicted of animal mutilation.
“The Last Ship” (9 p.m., TNT): Season 2 concludes.

Ceramics, photo exhibit at campus
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.
“Shifting Perspective,” an exhibition by Youngstown artist Missy McCormick, is on display in the Foster Gallery, in Patterson Hall, on the Westminster College campus. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The exhibit runs through Oct. 9.
An artist’s reception will take place at 5 p.m. Thursday, featuring a gallery talk by McCormick. Admission is free.
The exhibition highlights photo prints and ceramic work by McCormick, a native of Atlanta. McCormick received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts in 3-D/ceramics from Georgia Southern University and a master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Florida.
“My current ceramic work incorporates an atmospheric surface of low fire fumed terra sigallata, a traditional fine-particle clay material that creates a subtle soft sheen,” said McCormick. “This choice in surface is in direct response to a 15-year-long love of Persian miniature paintings and an even longer fascination with wood and soda firing.”
